From a local newspaper: RIJSWIJKS MEMORIAL FOR BOMBER Saturday 26 September 2009, 13:27 RIJSWIJK – On Saturday a memorial will be unveiled dedicated to an American B24-J Liberator-bomber, which crashed in September 1944 in the neighborhood. Two crewmembers were killed. The were shot by the Germans. The memorial will be composed of a stone with an erected propeller blade. The aircraft Lil’Max with eleven men on board returned from bombing a railway-yard in the German town of Hamm. It was shot at and crashed in a pasture behind the then-existing farm ‘Op Hoop van Zegen’. The
crewmembers had bailed out by that time. |
